For us, who initiated the celebration of the International Danube River Day in Serbia with numerous partners 15 years ago, this date is exceptionally significant. At the end this June, we again celebrated the day of the largest river in the country. In cooperation with the Let’s do it Srbija organisation, we conducted large-scale volunteer campaigns of cleansing riverbanks in seven cities - Apatin, Sombor, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Smederevo, Golubac and Kladovo.

Many participants, excellent organisation and even better atmosphere marked this ambitious campaign. Around 350 amazing volunteers cleansed more than 2 km of the banks and collected 2.5 ton of waste.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection also recognised our sincere intent and the relevance of the values we support and promote. This is confirmed by support and participation of Minister Goran Trivan in the campaign of cleansing the banks of the most beautiful river in Belgrade. “The Coca‑Cola system is a company striving to be highly responsible towards the environment where it operates and that is why we are here today, to symbolically demonstrate how global business goes hand in hand with environmental protection,” underlined Minister Trivan.

Owing to a fantastic turnout of citizens, but primarily of our Coca‑Cola volunteers, their willingness to provide personal contribution to environmental protection and support the Company in its efforts aimed at improving the community where it operates, outstanding results were recorded! We are glad that our colleagues expressed exceptional will, energy and readiness to invest their time in the execution of such an important project and be true ambassadors of our Company’s values. This is best verified by their accounts: “I think that the Danube river cleansing campaign was more than useful. Not only was a part of the banks cleansed, but also many young people gathered and showed together their appreciation for nature and the place where they live and work,” said Mihailo Stojkovic, Senior Key Account Manager in Coca‑Cola HBC and one of 350 tenacious volunteers.

We are particularly proud of the fact that volunteers from Bambi, which has recently become a member of the Coca‑Cola HBC Group, also joined this outstanding campaign and thus additionally contributed to the excellent energy and reflected the sincere determination of the employees to gather around an important cause. A great atmosphere and energy indicating fantastic team cooperation in the future, is the strongest impression of Nemanja Brković, Public Relations Manager of Bambi. “It was a great pleasure to participate in the Danube Day volunteer campaign, together with colleagues from Coca‑Cola HBC Serbia and Bambi. Through such projects, we spread the spirit of unity and raise awareness of the entire public about the importance of preserving our rivers and the living environment,” said Nemanja.

Impressions of happiness and satisfaction particularly came from Apatin, where we rewarded the “Nikola Tesla” Grammar School with 10 000 euros. Students of this school won at our contest for the most successful school in collecting packaging waste and thus provided their school with a significant donation for schoolyard refurbishment. Young and enthusiastic, they joined our volunteers in this small Danube town and confirmed that youth were more than ready to do something useful for them and the community, and our job is to support and provide them with an example.

For 15 years now, we have been dedicated to the Danube river preservation. Since 2004, in cooperation with the National Water Directorate and numerous partners, we have been executing great campaigns aimed at protecting the largest European river, while in a partnership with WWF (World Wildlife Fund), we have restored the Danube wetlands in the Upper Danube Special Reserve.

This year again, the execution of large-scale riverbank cleansing campaigns confirms that we firmly believe that the Company’ determination to provide contribution to the community where it operates and the excellent team of people, ready to achieve ambitious and bold objectives, are behind great business successes.
